What considerations are used to determine admission to St. Christopher School?

The following priorities apply:

Highest priority - Siblings of children currently attending St. Christopher Catholic School
Second – Catholic children of families registered at St. Christopher Parish
Third – Catholic children of families registered at other Catholic Parishes
Fourth – Any other children who meet the admission criteria

What determines active parishioner status?

An active parishioner meets all of the following criteria:

At least one parent is Catholic.
The family has been registered in St. Christopher Parish for at least 1 year.
The family regularly attends Mass at St. Christopher Parish.
The family contributes financially to the parish using parish envelopes or automated funds transfer.
The family is actively involved in parish ministry (e.g. is a Eucharistic Minister, belongs to Ladies Guild or Holy Name Society).

Does St. Christopher School maintain a waiting list?

Yes.  Children are accepted to St. Christopher using the priorities listed above.  If a child qualifies for admission, but there is not a space available in the class, he/she is placed on a waiting list.  If a space opens up, the parent will be notified.

What if a family has just moved into the area?

If the family meets the criteria outlined above at the parish they are leaving, and if their pastor writes a letter verifying that the criteria has been met, the family will be considered active parishioners at St. Christopher.  The family must immediately register at St. Christopher Parish.

We accept 35 students in each of the two kindergarten classes.

What is the age requirement for kindergarten entrance?

Children must be five years of age on or by September 1 of the year they enter kindergarten.  This is in compliance with state guidelines.

What criteria are used to determine kindergarten acceptance?

Developmental and social readiness are the most important factors.  These are key elements in school success.

A formal assessment of kindergarten readiness is administered in January.  The teachers and the principal evaluate the readiness of each applicant, taking into consideration the results of the assessment, observation of the child before and during the assessment, and the preschool recommendation.

What is the maximum number of children in a 1st to 8th grade classroom?

We maintain an enrollment of 35 students in each classroom.  Our adult-to-child ratio is mitigated by part-time instructional aides (grades 1 to 8) and reading & learning specialists (grades 1 to 3).
